S1E20 Singing Bones

“But until I hit the bottom, I won’t believe that it’s bottomless.”

For our twentieth episode (!!), we take a listen to some gothic Americana from the alternative country band The Handsome Family.

Comprising of husband and wife duo Brett and Rennie Sparks, The Handsome Family have been creating their unique sound since 1993.

Aaron and I discuss their sixth studio album, Singing Bones. Singing Bones was released in 2003 by Carrot Top Records, a “super small” independent record label in Chicago.

Some listeners may recognize the song “Far From Any Road” as the opening music to season one of True Detective. They also appeared in the amazing 2003 documentary Searching For the Wrong-Eyed Jesus, which is absolutely worth stopping whatever you are currently doing and watching. I mean it. Go.

Make sure to check out the Handsome Family website.
